Human Design is a synthesis of Western astrology, the Hindu Chakra system, the Chinese I Ching, the Jewish Kabbalah and quantum physics. It is not a belief system, or a religion. Your individual Human Design chart is created from your birth data, and provides you with specific knowledge around your personality, wisdom, talents, how you are designed to operate, your purpose in life and also your vulnerabilities. It shows your inner authority and gives a blueprint of your energy.
Your Human Design Chart
A Human Design chart is run using your birthdate, birthplace and time of birth. The resulting chart has 9 centres, which roughly correspond to the 7 chakras of the Hindu Chakra system except the Heart Chakra is split into 2 centres, as is the Solar Plexus Chakra. Each of these centres is either defined or undefined. The definition in a chart shows us those areas where we show consistent behaviour.
The undefined centres are where we take in and amplify energy from those around us, and depends on who we are with as to how we tend to behave, so this is inconsistent. There are 64 gates (corresponding to the Chinese I Ching) in the Human Design chart, and the gates are located on the different centres. Where one centre is joined to another by gates at each end, both centres will be defined, and the gates join to form a channel. Again, where a channel is defined, we demonstrate consistent behaviours.
Each of the gates has 6 lines, and the lines give a different flavour to each of the gates. Your Type (there are 5 Types) is delineated by the centres that you have defined or undefined. The centres also show your Authority, which is the way you are designed to operate energetically.
A Human Design chart will show two personality designs – a conscious design and an unconscious design, and the planets are represented in each of these personalities – this is where the astrology is demonstrated in the chart. You will be aware of your conscious design but not often of the unconscious design. It is from the conscious and unconscious sun gates that your Profile is derived, and also your Incarnation Cross (or your purpose in life) is shown.
Components of Human Design
Your Human Design chart is provided in the form of a Bodygraph which is comprised of the following elements:
Chakras
These are the energy centres and there are 7 main chakras in the Hindu Chakra system that relate to the body. In the Human Design system these become the 9 centres of the Bodygraph as the Heart chakra and the Solar Plexus chakra each split to form 2 centres.
These centres have each have a number of gates with channels that join the centres. Where coloured channels join centres, the centres are also coloured, or “defined”.
I Ching Hexagrams
The Chinese I Ching comprises 64 Hexagrams, which can be related to the 64 genetic codons that are part of our human make up. These 64 Hexagrams are the gates that are found on the centres of the Bodygraph.
Western Astrology
This is used to calculate the positions of the planets at the time of your birth – so the information required to run a chart is your birth date, time and place of birth. An approximation can be used for the time if you do not know this precisely.
There are two designs in the Bodygraph, the conscious design which is the time of your birth and the unconscious design, which is approximately 3 months prior to your birth.
Human Design Types
Below is just a top line summary of each of the Human Design Types
Manifestor
Manifestors (about 8% of the population) initiate and innovate. They are the only types that don’t need to wait for anything before following their inner authority, though it is helpful to inform others who may be affected by their actions as to what is happening, so they don’t meet with resistance.
Generator
Generators. Generators represent about 37% of the population. They are the life force of the planet, the builders. They have sustainable energy and they are designed to be experts at the work they love, but they have to wait to respond before starting a task or project.
Manifesting Generator
Manifesting Generators (around 33% of the population) have initiating energy like Manifestors, but they also have sustainable energy like Generators. They are here to find the fastest way to accomplish a task but they also need to wait to respond to opportunities.
Projector
Projectors (around 21% of the population) have a huge amount of insight into others, and are here to guide & lead, but only when they are recognised and invited to share their wisdom by others. They do not have sustainable energy so are not designed to work 9-5.
Reflector
Reflectors are the rarest type (only around 1% of the entire population). They act as mirrors and reflect the health of the community, and they need to wait a full lunar month before making any major decisions
